    Oh! No Pulitzer Winner

Over at the NY Times Ann Patchett writes about this year's non-Pulitzer,

Let me underscore the obvious here: Reading fiction is important. It is a vital means of imagining a life other than our own, which in turn makes us more empathetic beings. Following complex story lines stretches our brains beyond the 140 characters of sound-bite thinking, and staying within the world of a novel gives us the ability to be quiet and alone, two skills that are disappearing faster than the polar icecaps.

    I Keep Doing That Thing

The thing... where I drop off the face of the planet for a few days.

It's been busy at Chez Andi. Meetings, writing, edits, meetings, phone calls, decisions, meetings. Everything is beginning to blur, but out of the chaos will emerge something creative and enjoyable. And despite my dropping off and the meetings I am enjoying what is going on behind the scenes.

The PA has been brilliant and probably wants to throttle me over her growing list of to-do's.

In the meantime all sorts of stuff is going on. Goodreads is no longer using data from Amazon for books. The NY Times had a lengthy bit about Barnes & Noble taking on Amazon. And over at PRWeb they are talking about the success of authors at independent publisher Samhain.

And now it's back to wordmancing for me.
